3 Nights in Dubrovnik

15th - 18th September

Dubrovnik offers an unusual blend of modern culture and ancient traditions. Marble-like polished limestone streets, a labyrinth of alleyways, and breathtaking architecture compose the unique atmosphere of the Old Town. You’ll experience a true variety of sightseeing, leisure, and outdoor adventures here. Dubrovnik’s most stunning feature is the 82-foot tall city wall which extends more than a mile. Game of Thrones fans will be in luck, as we offer a special tour to local set locations. King’s Landing never looked so good! There’s a rich selection of live performances for music lovers here, as concerts are performed daily, and in July and August the Dubrovnik Summer Festival of music, theatre and dance brings incredible performers from around the world. The nightlife is also exciting, with restaurants, cafes and bars that will keep you socializing until dawn. You’ll be staying in beautiful accommodation within short walking distance to all the major sites, so you’ll be able to sample a little of everything. But there are also several exciting day trips and cruises to enjoy. From kayaking through hidden coves to an authentic Croatian cooking class, vineyard tours, and trips as far afield as Montenegro, you’ll have more than enough to fill your itinerary.

Day 2

Monday, September 16th

Day 2 - Your First Full Day in Dubrovnik

Monday, September 16th

Game of Thrones Private Tour

Included in your vacation package price.

This Game of Thrones tour is one of the most unique ways to explore the city, as you’ll effectively be seeing two locations at once, Dubrovnik, and King’s Landing. You’ll be guided by a local tour guide and fan of the series and just a little bit of your imagination will take you to the Red Keep (St. Lawrence’s fortress), the Tomb of the Undying (the Minceta fortress), and other filming locations of the series. You’ll immerse yourself into the intrigues of the Iron Throne and find out first-hand how they filmed those impressively picturesque scenes. Dubrovnik is, after, the best-preserved medieval city in Europe. If you’ve chosen the full-day tour, you’ll also travel outside of the city like the Arboretum gardens in Trsteno and the Island of Lokrum, the magical setting for the of the city of Q’arth.

Activity Level : Moderate
Duration : 2.5 - 3 hours

After your tour: City Walls, Cable Car and Lokrum Island

Suggestion to explore on your own

As well as taking a short walking tour of Dubrovnik's old town with a private guide, which will tell you all about the city's history and get you oriented, there are a few other must-dos when in this breathtaking city and all involve getting a different perspective on the magnificent walled old town.

Continue your day in Dubrovnik after the tour with a ride on the cable car up Mount Srd' to take in the views. You'll find the bottom station of the cable car by exiting the city through the Buža Gate. Walking the circumference of the ancient city walls themselves is a way to get another view of the town. It's a bit of a climb to the top of the Minceta tower but highly recommended. If you also want to see Dubrovnik from afar then take a boat trip to Lokrum Island, an oasis of nature and tranquility just 10 minutes from the old town harbor.

Day 3

Tuesday, September 17th

Day 3 - Your Second Full Day in Dubrovnik

You can enter and see some of the Elaphiti hidden caves, swim on sandy beaches and visit villages on the islands. Take a walk on the island of Lopud, with two monasteries, 30 churches and a number of ruined noble buildings. This tour is perfect getaway from the busy old city center and a great example of typical Dalmatian island culture. Beautiful spots for swimming, sightseeing, walking or just enjoying the sun on the boat or on the beach is all this day is about.

Activity Level : Moderate
Duration : 8 hours

Just two kilometers northwest is the beach of the Hotel Sirena, secluded amid pines and wild sage. There’s a bar and grill too. Get the boat taxi (30kn, 30mins) to the beaches of the Pakleni islands, in particular the sandy one at Palmizana. After a brisk trip by speedboat you’ll arrive at the islet of Bisevo, the location of the Blue Cave. The cave is a natural phenomenon which can be entered only by small fishermen’s boats. The inside of the cave is quite spacious and exploring it is an unforgettable experience, especially the light effect created by the sun reflecting in the cave through the sea. Your tour will then continue to Komiza, whose inhabitants are believed to be the best fishermen on the Adriatic. Here you can visit the Fishermen’s Museum in a fortified building from the 16th century. 2 Nights in Split

20th - 22nd September

The Roman Emperor Diocletian made Split his home in the 4th Century AD, building a vast palace complex on the waterfront that stands to this day. In fact several of the accommodation options we offer in Split are nestled inside its ancient walls. These days there is an embankment in front of Diocletian's palace but the water used to go right up to the main wall. It's on this man-made strip of land that you'll find the Riva, a pedestrian promenade bustling with life. Split's UNESCO listed Old Town is contained within these old walls and is a pedestrian-only maze that it is quite easy, but fun, to get lost in. Who know what romantic hidden cafés you might find in one of the narrow streets and alleyways? To get the best out of your time in Split, however, we recommend taking a tour with a local guide. Split is very well connected for flights, with an international airport a half hour drive away and is a popular stopping point for our guests on their way between Dubrovnik and the islands of Hvar, Vis, or Korcula, all easily reached by a ferry from Split's port. If you base yourself in Split for a few days, you will find it is also perfect located for visits to some of Croatia's most stunning national parks.

Without JayWay Travel, my friends and I would not have enjoyed the trip as we did. My wife and friends cannot stop talking about the trip without excitement and appreciation for my planning, for which I owe JaWay Travel. I recommend JayWay Travel to anyone and anywhere.

How does this work?

What are the next steps?
At this stage we want to make sure you're happy with the dates, destinations and number of nights in each place. If everything laid out in this proposal meets your approval we will move to the next stage, checking for accommodation availability and present a variety of accommodation choices with exact pricing. If there is anything you want to change about the overall structure of your trip. please let your travel advisor know and we will present a revised proposal.
When is payment due and how much?
Once we have decided on your preferred accommodations and confirmed these selections, a final price will be provided. At that time we require a deposit payment to lock-in the trip. If the trip is more than 30 days in the future, we require a 25% deposit with the final 75% due 30 days before arrival. If arrival is in less than 30 days, we require a 100% payment. We will send you a reminder by email shortly before the due date.
Will we be met at the airport?
Airport meet and greet is a standard service we include in all of our packages. Unless you specifically ask us not to arrange an airport pickup you can expect to be met by our driver at the airport. He or she will be holding a sign with your name on it.
Will we have a local contact?
One of the most integral parts of our service is the local assistance we provide. As mentioned above, leading up to your trip you will be contacted by our local staff in the region and you will also be met by them upon arrival. We will provide you with a local cell phone so you can reach them throughout your travels.
Are excursions included?
Please be sure to reference the "what's included" section of this page, which will give you a specific list of exactly what is included in your package. Unless indicated in the offer and listed under "what's included," those services are provided at an additional cost.
Should we choose all our excursions now?
We usually suggest that you wait to book additional excursions until the start date of your trip is closer, so there’s no need to go through this selection now. About a month before your departure we will put you in touch with our local staff in the region who will prepare you for the trip. We believe this is the best time to book those additional excursions, or you can even book them when you meet our local staff upon arrival. However if you are absolutely sure you want an excursion included you can certainly include it in your package at this point.
Are there any extra fees for your service on top of the price you quote?
There are no extra fees for our service on top of the package price we offer. All of our assistance through the process from start to finish is already built into the price we have provided, so there will be no fees on top of this. Should you wish to tip service providers or our local staff (this is optional) we will advise you of the appropriate amounts.
Can we choose any of the options from your accommodations list?
Please note the pricing provided in this offer is a starting price based on 4 star accommodations. We wanted to provide you with a ballpark idea of the price of the package, which can vary based on the accommodations selected. The price proposed includes just entry level accommodations at that particular star rating so will change based on potential upgrades.
Can I choose accommodation options not listed on your website?
It is possible to include options not listed on our website but we generally discourage this. More often than not we are familiar with all the accommodation options a city offers and have conducted very thorough research to pick what we believe are the best options in each city for various reasons. If we do not offer a certain option there is probably a reason for that and we are always happy to provide a comparable alternative.
Can we book hotels on our own and arrange only transfers and tours with JayWay?
We generally book only complete packages, with hotels included. Our expertise with the accommodations in the cities we offer is second-to-none. We have stayed in, visited and fully inspected all of the accommodations we provide, to ensure the highest quality for our guests. We are experts in each location, so if we do not offer a specific hotel there is probably a reason for this. We provide a variety of options in each location to meet every budget and taste. All of the options we provide are at a minimum centrally located, clean, comfortable and safe. They also usually include some unique feature. Most importantly, all are an excellent value so you can be sure you will get what you pay for. We can make an exception in some cases, for example if you plan to visit four cities and have some hotel points to use, it’s no problem if you want to use them in one location. Or if you have a place to stay with family or friends in a city, you could do that in one location. The bulk of our income is derived from commissions from hotels so your package will end up costing you more if you book hotels on your own.
Can you break down the pricing of the package?
One of the reasons luxury travel companies such as ours offer a complete trip package, and do not provide a breakdown of trip component costs, is that we have private negotiated rates with hotels, guides, and drivers. Most contracts stipulate that these negotiated rates are kept confidential and may only be offered as part of a trip package. Violating this can lead to a termination of the contract, and worse, damage the strong, long-standing relationships we have with these partners. These relationships help us avoid waiting lists, and get better service and rooms.
Can we add people to the trip later?
We are always flexible, so it’s no problem to add other travelers to the trip at a later date. Of course this will depend on the availability of flights and accommodations at the time of booking, but we will do our best to include them.
What if I have to cancel the trip?
We realize things happen, so we always try to work with clients, especially under difficult circumstances that cause them to cancel. You can find our cancellation policy at jaywaytravel.com/terms. We reserve the right to stick to these policies but we do our best to be flexible and compassionate.
Do you offer insurance and when should I purchase this?
We do not sell insurance directly but you will find various insurance options available for purchase at jaywaytravel.com/insurance. We suggest that you purchase this insurance within 14 days after making your initial trip deposit payment if you want trip cancellation cover.
Are you insured?
We have $1m per-incident professional liability insurance from AON. Please note this does not mean you should not purchase your own travel insurance. If you need travel insurance, we suggest buying a policy through our travel insurance partners. This website lets you compare various quotes and policies from reputable insurers.
Will I need a visa for this trip?
If you’re an American, Canadian, Australian, or EU passport holder then no, unless you plan on staying longer then a certain time (generally three months). If your passport is issued by another country you may want to check this before traveling. You can check with the embassy website for any country you are visiting for the specifics. From 2021, if you are visiting any Schengen countries (most of the EU) the EU will have a system in place called ETIAS, which is a parallel to the US ESTA. You will need to register online in advance of your trip and pay a fee of €7, and approval should be granted in minutes, for 95% of cases.

Please remember to check your passport’s expiration date. European countries require at least 3 months (sometimes 6 months) of validity remaining on your passport beyond the date you leave that country. Should you find your passport expires before this date, you will need to get it renewed as soon as possible.
Is it necessary to finalize tours and transportation, including the time of day they begin, before I pay my deposit?
Final arrangements, such as when you start a tour or transfer, or the stops you make as part of a transfer, are made a month before your trip begins. At this time, your JayWay tour manager will contact you to discuss your options and give advice. People frequently add tours or excursions at this point, as these can generally be added later (any tours that should be booked ASAP will be marked as such in the Guest Page you will receive access to after paying your deposit).
Can I book cultural performances, such as operas, ballets, or shows at the Spanish Riding School with you, or should I book them myself? When should we book these?
We recommend booking most cultural performances on your own. We have discounts with certain frequent concerts, such as nightly Chopin piano recitals in Krakow, and these are listed alongside tours and excursions in proposals. In most cases, though, we do not have access to any discounts, and many cultural performances sell out well in advance. In some places, such as Vienna, there are also many different price categories, so it’s best to compare different seats and offers yourself. However, we are happy to provide links and advice, which you will find in your Guest Page once your trip is booked.
Should I rent a car?
While we recommend car rental in some places, like Slovenia and most of Croatia, we recommend public transportation or private transfers in most of the countries we cover. Central and Eastern European car rental agencies charge steep fees to people driving through multiple countries, especially if they leave the car in a different country than they picked it up in. Having a car is more harmful than helpful in most cities, especially those with large pedestrian zones and limited parking, such as Prague and Krakow. We have also had clients suffer bad experiences with car rentals in Central Europe in the past. However, we can help you explore the countryside and points between destinations without a rental car, and give you flexibility in terms of where you go, and when. We have written this article about renting a car in Central & Eastern Europe. In addition your travel advisor can help you decide on whether a rental car is right for your trip, depending on your destinations and interests.
How will I get local currency when I arrive? Should I bring dollars with me?
As we generally pick you up from an airport, train station, or port when you start your trip with us and take you to your first hotel, we recommend asking the hotel staff for the location of a safe ATM nearby that charges reasonable fees. ATMs are widespread throughout Europe, and as long as your bank back home doesn't charge you a huge fee for foreign withdrawals, you should get a better rate with a machine than by changing money. The machine may offer the option to have the transaction charged in dollars instead of the local currency. Decline this option, as this will give you a worse exchange rate, without aiding you in any way. If you do need to change money, banks are generally open during normal working hours on weekdays, and exchange offices in airports and major train stations open daily. While some people will take tips in dollars, we recommend having local currency on hand, especially for making purchases on the street.
Should I tip?
Because tipping culture varies between countries, there are few hard and fast rules to follow. In general, though, small tips are the norms for drivers transferring you to and from airports, train stations, and ports, and waiters. Somewhat larger tips are appropriate for tour guides, drivers taking you between cities, and your JayWay local representative. Once you have paid your deposit, you will gain access to your Guest Page, which will provide more information on your trip and destinations, including tipping standards for the countries you will visit, alongside a wealth of other useful information.
Can you book flights for us?
Our speciality is the land portion of a trip, so we are unable to book flights to and from Europe. We are happy to take care of flights within Europe as part of your trip package, although we are generally unable to use your miles or points for these bookings. If you would like some help or tips, we can give advice for finding flights to and within Europe.
